The four-year-old had a nice temperament and was a “good, steady working dog”, according to his new owner.
“Brawn is a paddock-type dog. He has done a lot of paddock work with sheep and goats,” Mr Lawrence said.
He said he has another six working dogs, all of them Kelpies, which he prefers because they are so hardy.
“They are more versatile and will work cattle, sheep and goats as well.
“I want him as a goat dog.”
Mr Lawrence said some people might be surprised at how much he bid for Brawn, but he said he could easily make the money back.
“I sold $4000 worth of goat last week,” he said.
Mr Lawrence said he was still teaching Brawn some new commands and letting him work with a small herd of goats.
Brawn also has to learn to ride on the back of a motorbike but that “won’t take long.
“This bloke could handle a mob of goats by himself,” he said.
“Once I put a bit more time into him, he will pay for himself in no time.”
