Football tyros from the city’s four clubs will have the chance to learn from some of the best in the business on Monday at a training session hosted by legends Paul Kelly and Kevin Sheedy.
The star duo will be in the city as part of a visit by the new GWS Giants AFL club, and will attend coaching clinics and speaking engagements.
Brownlow Medallist and former Sydney Swan, Paul Kelly, will work with kids between the ages of 5 and 12 on Monday, and GWS Coach Kevin Sheedy will address participating players.
Local AFL NSW/ACT Development Officer Terry Mutch said the city’s junior players would reap significant benefits from training under the eye of Kelly, Sheedy and other GWS officials.
“It’s a great opportunity for the kids to take part in new drills and develop their skills, and just to have the chance to meet Sheedy and Kelly will be great,” he said.
“They’re both icons of Australian Football and I’m sure they’ll have a wealth of knowledge to pass on to our junior players.
“I think the kids will really enjoy it. It’s something we’ve never really had in Broken Hill and hopefully we can look at doing something like this annually if it succeeds.”
The training session will run from 11am to 1.30pm at the Jubilee Oval and will involve a variety of training techniques and games.
Attendance costs $15, and includes lunch and an AFL backpack including a football, hat, stickers and football trading cards.
To register for the day please contact Terry Mutch on 0418 970 012 or email email@example.com. A registration table will also be available during this weekend’s junior football games.
The public is also invited to meet Sheedy and Kelly at a function at the Civic Centre on Monday night.
The evening is being promoted for all lovers of footy, and tickets are available at a cost of $25 (meal included) from Broken Hill Meats, 405 Argent Street.
Today is the final day to purchase tickets, and those interested are advised to get their money in by 5pm.
