One of the YWCA’s major fundraisers of the year - the craft market - is on today.

Spokeswoman and organiser of the event, Sharyn Cakebread, said the market was a popular event, particularly for gift buyers.

“The stalls are good for that unique gift and that hard-to-buy-for person,” she said.

Items range from china paintings, local artwork, egg artistry and candle craft to homemade chocolates, children’s hair accessories and baby and children’s clothing.

Some stalls have even brought along Christmas gifts for people planning to celebrate Christmas in July.

Homemade pasties, tea and coffee, cakes and toasted sandwiches will also be available at the YWCA cafe.

“We are quite renowned for our homemade pasties,” Mrs Cakebread said.

She said last year’s market was a great success and that she hoped to see a repeat this year.

The market opens at 10am at the YWCA hall in Blende Street and will run until 4pm.

Entry is by gold cold donation.
