Robins can smell finals football
Saturday, 9th July, 2011
Today’s game at the Alma Oval looms as an important one for Central and West, with the Robins holding on to a half a game gap over the Magpies.
The Magpies are the reigning premiers and it would be a sorry fall from grace if they didn’t play finals footy in 2011.
Meanwhile the Robins can smell finals footy and they want to be part of the action. Their form in past couple of weeks has been fantastic with wins over the two top sides and today they will be chasing three in a row for the first time since 2007.
With only half a game separating these two sides today’s game is vital two both teams. Both sides have suffered big losses with the Robins missing Rose and Martin and the Magpies will be without Gepp, Schnickel and Sowden to name a few.
Both sides will be confident after scoring wins last week but a repeat is what is needed. Central will again start with a tall forward half with the in-form Bray and Farcich, who will have support coming from Gepp, Quinn and Cox.
Quick ball movement is the key to the Magpie forwards. West skipper John Blore will again lead the troops in the back half along with Zanette, Naden and Harris who was very good last week.
The all important duel in the middle will again play a big role in the outcome, With both sides needing to win they will both start their best in the middle which means Heath, Mannion and Bullen will start in the square for Central and Milne, Agius and Ryan will go in for the Robins.
With Sheedy out of town the two Kickett boys find themselves in the West forward half and both are capable of kicking multiple goals.
They must be watched closely along with the Magpies’ Conway and Dalby.
For the Magpies it is simple: tight checking and rebound football and that’s what Zanette, Gilby and McClure do best.
All in all it should be a great game with so much riding on the outcome but in the end I think the Robins will make it three in a row.
