There are still six weeks of winter to come and the local weather man says it’s not going to get much warmer very soon.

Phil Mew said yesterday the temperature reached just 10.4 degrees and the outlook was for the weather to stay “fairly cold”.

Mr Mew said he expected a few days below 15 degrees and for the rest of winter  some very cold days mixed with some mild ones “if the sun comes out”.

This month has seen a couple of frosty days which would have “made people realise it was definitely winter,” Mr Mew said.

The city has also received 5.2 millimetres of rain this month, compared to the average for June which is 2.8mm.
