Residents at Harold Williams Home had some special visitors last week when a few of the city’s rope quoits champions dropped in.

Champs including David Knott and Marnie Howe showed off their skills in front of close to 20 residents before a few of them had a throw or two themselves.

Registered nurse, Marg Lehman, said most of the residents enjoyed the experience.

“I know a few residents who used to play quoits,” she said.

One of those, Vida Garner, started playing the game back when her husband ran a quoits club many years ago.

Mrs Garner conceded she had lost a bit of her touch.

“I’d enjoy it more if I could get a few on,” she said.

Volunteer and part-organiser, Kerry Patterson, said the idea for the day came from finding an old quoits set.

“Many of the residents have been up playing,” she said.
