Power upgrades

Thursday, 21st July, 2011

The replacement of a major substation in Blende Street and an overhaul of the powerlines to Tibooburra have been named as priorities for Essential Energy.

Regional general manager Far West and water operations, Guy Chick, said the substation upgrade would further enhance the region’s power supply.

He said the planned work followed the completion of a number of projects, including major upgrades to power lines at Broken Hill and on the line that sends power to Menindee, Wilcannia and surrounds.

“Our crews in the Broken Hill, Menindee and Wilcannia areas are responsible for the poles and wires across a combined area of more than 100,000 square kilometres.

“That’s a total of over 22,000 power poles, and 2,200 substations that the local team maintain and upgrade.
