Dancers on the hunt for a few good men
Monday, 1st August, 2011
Broken Hill’s own Dancing with the Stars is looking for two more men to join the chorus line.
Organiser Dionne Devlin said the local stars were now in their third week of practice under teacher Courtney Adams.
“It has been going really well. They are having so much fun,” Mrs Devlin said.
“The girls are really excited sourcing their dresses,” she said.
The only problem is the show needs to two more men.
“We are finalising partners. We have lost a few and gained a few. We need two more dancers as two couldn’t keep going,” Mrs Devlin said.
The dancers practice Wednesday and Friday nights from 6 to 8 but you do not really have to be able to dance - just fundraise and help the YMCA.
Mrs Devlin said the fundraising was going really well.
“Everyone has set up an ‘Everyday Hero’ page (on the internet). It is an easy way to do it,” she said.
They were also thinking about “doing something fun, altogether, to raise money.”
The show will be held on September 24 and tickets will go on sale on Monday.
They cost $77 each and will be sold from the YMCA. The price includes a three-course meal. Pre-dinner drinks will be served at 7pm.
The dancers are learning two dances; the jive and the waltz.
“There have been lots of sore calf muscles,” Mrs Devlin said.
This year’s stars include Briana Bartley, Andy Walters, Lyndall Roberts, Andrew Oleznicky, Dove Howard, Mason Kumm, Chantal Fazulla, Stacey Ferguson, Tegan Gray, Matthew Kiddle, Richard Liston, Gideon Keenan, Noah Schutlz-Byard, Jess Taylor, Kirsty Stapylton, Danielle Huntley, Helen Hayes, Andrew Ryder, Kerry McDonald, Josh Cowdrey, Summa Gobell, Andrew Henry, Leone Tucker, Ashley Hutton, Matthew Kiddle, Stephanie Danaher, Angela Spencer and Cody Ralph.
