Don’t forget to wear denim
Friday, 5th August, 2011
Today is Jeans for Genes day and workers around the city are getting into the spirit of the day by putting on their favourite pair of jeans.
Jeans for Genes day is a major national fundraiser of the Children’s Medical Research Institute (CMRI) which is trying to unlock the mysteries of birth defects, cancer, and epilepsy.
Jeans West, Tembys Pharmacy and the Barrier Daily Truth are among some of the local businesses selling the Jeans for Genes day badges.
BDT Circulation Manager Cherie Carroll, who organised the BDT’s fundraising, said it was all for a good cause.
“We’re are doing our bit,” she said.
Jeanswest’s Michael Hotchin said the donations raised for this year’s Jeans for Genes day would go towards trying to cure epilepsy.
“We support (Jeans for Genes) every year and everyone seems to get behind it.”
Since 1994, Australians have raised more than $56 million through Jeans for Genes to support research at CMRI.
