Dasey one of the best

Basketballer Kate Dasey is officially one of the top 30 school players in the State after being selected to compete at the NSW All-Schools Championship. The Championship will be contested by three teams containing the best 10 players from public, Catholic and independent schools across the State.
Kate was chosen for the combined public school team after dominating for West Darling in the NSW Combined High Schools carnival held in the city in March.
"She was our highest scorer in the carnival held here, and was the regional MVP," said West Darling Girls Basketball Convenor and State selector, Clark Barrett.
"She really took control in those games. She's a ferocious and phenomenal rebounder and defender, way beyond her height.
"And she's such a gifted shooter that she made them pay on the scoreboard as well."
Mr Barrett said Kate's talent meant she was considered a "walk-up start" by State selectors, and predicted a bright future for the year 12 BH High student.
"We've had two other players - Erin Seward and Cherie Smith - that have made it to this level and they both went on to play in the WNBL," said Mr Barrett.
"If you follow that form then it wouldn't be all that surprising to see Kate appearing in that league in the future."
Kate said she was pleased to have finally made it through to the next stage of the combined schools competition after missing out in previous years.
Although she has starred in previous school carnivals as a junior, State selectors tend to lean towards older girls when selecting combined teams.
"I'm really excited to get into it. I've always wanted to get to the last stage of the competition, so I'm happy to get there in my last year (of school). It's a good way to go out," she said.
"It will be hard going against the Catholic and independent Schools. I haven't actually seen any of their players but hopefully I should do ok."
The All-Schools Championship will be held in Sydney on Monday, with a place in the NSW State side up for grabs.
The NSW State side will compete in the National School Championships in December.
