Climate change talk tonight
Wednesday, 10th August, 2011
Water, drought and climate change will be on the agenda tonight when a Charles Sturt University lecturer gives a talk at the TAFE College.
School of Environmental Sciences Professor, David Mitchell from the Albury-Wodonga campus of Charles Sturt University, will present his public lecture at 5.30pm.
Everyone is welcome to attend and hear Professor Mitchell talk about the many procedures used in Australia to manage water, and how they can be inappropriate for the country’s landscape and environment.
“European colonisation led to extensive areas of complex natural vegetation being cleared to provide space for crop plants that are poorly adapted to the Australian climate and often require proportionately larger quantities of water than native plants,” Prof Mitchell said.
He said concern was also growing in Australia about the possibility of “profound” changes in the nation’s climate.
