 The wait is finally over.

Today over 650 kids wake up to a big weekend of soccer with the 2011 South Australian Junior Soccer Association Country Championships kicking off.

Junior representative teams from SA, Sunraysia and Broken Hill will battle each other over the two-day event which Broken Hill last hosted 10 years ago.

The action starts at 8am this morning and continues throughout the day at three venues: O’Neill Soccer Complex, Norm Fox Oval and the Jubilee Oval, which will host a couple of night matches.

Players will be back into it tomorrow with the last match schedulled to start at 2pm ahead of presentations at 3pm.

By the end of the carnival 144 matches would have been played across six age groups (four boys and two girls) ranging from under 12 to under 16.

The championship, which was months in the organising, will also be a boon for local businesses, who are set to beenfit from the influx of 1000 visitors.

A spokesman for the BH Soccer Association said that locals were welcome to any of the weekend matches - and maybe even barrack for their home teams.

“It’s a free event so people who want to come down for a casual look are most welcome.”
