A fundraising event will be held in Silverton tomorrow to raise money to send 16-year-old Logan Cooper to the United States of America. Logan has been accepted into the United Space School in Houston, Texas, and will leave in July.

Her mother, Deb Jones, said Logan would be the first female Australian to attend the school.

Logan's 10-day program would include planning a mission to Mars.

"We decide how much food to take, what you'd need, how long it takes to get there and how long you'd be there," she said.

Logan said she had been doing quite a bit of preparation to ready herself for the trip.

"I've had to read two books and do a book review," she said. "I've done science questions and an assignment and learnt about orbital velocity. I've learned a little bit - it's a bit hard."

Sunday's auction will be the final in a round of fundraising events to help get to $4,000 to pay for tuition and school fees
