Broken Hill Public School celebrated Book Week yesterday with a parade of the children’s favourite story characters.

All the kids dressed up showed their costumes off to parents and family members in the school hall.

Teacher/librarian and organiser of the parade, Janyce Sherrard, said the book parade was a great way to celebrate reading.

“It is a wonderful day for children to dress up in costume as a book character,” Ms Sherrard said.

She said the children were very excited and had a great time.

The theme of Book Week was “One World, Many Stories”.

Due to the Eisteddfod being held this week, the parade was the only event for  Book Week, Ms Sherrard said.

She said the school also watched a DVD about the modern library.

“There is a lot more technology,” Ms Sherrard said.

“Students are learning about new technology, the internet and finding information on the internet.”
