Club axes Two Up game
Wednesday, 31st August, 2011
Cries of “Head ‘em up” will no-longer be heard at the Musicians Club after its Board of Directors last night reaffirmed its decision to axe the historic game.
BH City Council had requested the Musicians Club temporarily reverse its decision to cancel the famous Two Up School, but with the event losing substantial money the Board unanimously decided that last Saturday night was the final time the game would be played at the Crystal Street premises.
The decision is a blow to Council who had wanted to continue the event at the Club until the end of October to allow time to find a new venue for the tourism driver.
The BHCC holds one of only two special permits in Australia to conduct Two Up all year round and is desperate to continue the tradition in BH.
But the event is not economically viable according to the Musicians Club and other similar operators and Council may now need to consider continuing the Two Up School at one of its own venues.
