City’s pool reopening
Saturday, 3rd September, 2011
The 50 metre pool at the Regional Aquatic Centre, which was closed for winter, reopens tomorrow.
The Council team, contractors and public alike are looking forward to the reopening given the early arrival of spring.
The Aquatic Centre’s winter break provided an opportune time for the $10 million redevelopment of the complex, said Council’s General Manager, Frank Zaknich, who thanked the public for its patience.
“The opening of the 50m pool on Sunday means that we are one step closer to opening the entire redeveloped complex,” Mr Zaknich said.
“People passing the Aquatic Centre at the moment will see a very different facility to what was available 12 months ago.”
Works are now being finalised on the main entrance (near the former entrance), the manager’s area, a multipurpose function and activities room.
There are now new amenities too - male and female change rooms and family change rooms, an indoor hydrotherapy pool and the 25m pool has been refurbished with disability access.
There are sliding windows on the 25m pool so it can be used in winter and summer.
The new kiosk and cafe will also be available to people using the adjacent North Family Park and there are also more barbecue areas.
The operating hours of the 50m pool will be from 6am to 2pm and 4pm to 7.30pm from Monday to Friday, and 8am-6pm on weekends and public holidays.
The 50m pool is the only pool available until the 25m and toddler/program pool is completed. Until that time, there will be no facility for toddlers.
Swimming club training times will be from 5pm to 7pm Monday to Thursday.
Admission will continue to be by donation pending new centre opening.
