Juniors provide a day to remember
Monday, 5th September, 2011
The city’s junior footballers produced an enthralling day of entertainment yesterday as the Broken Hill Junior Football league held its grand final day.
The games were played in warm, breezy conditions at the Jubilee Oval with a good crowd in attendance.
The day got off to a great start for North, with their Under 12 side proving far too strong for South. The Bulldogs held the Roos scoreless throughout the contest and piled on 12 goals to record a 76-point win.
North: 12.4 (76) South 0.0 (0)
North were again in good form in the Under 14s game, although inaccuracy in front of goal almost let their West opponents into the match.
North had kicked 6.11 by the final change and West were still in the hunt on 5.2 despite having far fewer scoring shots.
The Bulldogs held on in the final term thanks to a three-goal burst and ran out 28-point winners.
North: 9.14 (68) West: 6.4 (40)
West hit back in the Under 16 game to claim the flag against North in a physical encounter.
The Robins opened up a three goal lead at quarter time and spent the next two quarters in a low-scoring arm wrestle with their opponents.
North trailed by 24 points at the final change but were unable to bridge the gap as West kicked away to take the flag with a 39-point win.
West 12.9 (81) North 6.6 (42)
