‘Jobs galore’ at Coles super store

Supermarket chain Coles is hiring 80 extra employees as part of their ‘super store’ opening in the city.
Coles plans to open its new market-style store half way through next year.
Eighty full-time, part-time and casual jobs will go on offer next year, with Coles now accepting resumes at their South supermarket.
Advertising will also start in the new year.
Coles’ local store manager, Sue Dowling, said the supermarket development will provide job opportunities for many locals.
“We’re currently taking expressions of interest from prospective team members and will formally commence the recruitment process early next year,” she said.
Ms Dowling said customers will be impressed by the huge range of fresh, local products.
She said the store will be expanding from a seven-aisle supermarket to one of the “most up-to-date stores in the country.”
“The new supermarket will allow us to increase the range we have on offer dramatically,” she said.
“For example, at the moment we have around 5,000 lines on offer but we will be increasing that to around 15,000 which is enormous.
“We’re really aiming to deliver unprecedented value on an increased range of high quality products, and we think shoppers will love it.
“We are always looking at local lines to include in our range.”
The new store, three times larger than the South supermarket, will include a bakery and deli, butchers and an extended produce section where fruit and vegetables will be displayed on ice.
The supermarket will be located at Leasecorp’s new shopping centre site in Gossan Street where work has been delayed to due to the difficulty with the hard, rocky ground.
Leasecorp’s Steve Palyga said the company was testing a non-explosive mechanism to break apart the rock.
After that, the company would be able to determine what contractors they needed, Mr Palyga said.
