Veteran golfer Ernie Wheeler isn’t a confident golfer when it comes to the Silver City Classic.
“I’ll probably fare the same as usual, somewhere in the middle or in the last three like last year,” he told the BDT.
The Veterans Golfers Week, which starts tomorrow afternoon, will see 86 of the country’s select elder sportsmen tee-off at the BH Golf and Country Club.
Mr Wheeler said it was always lots of fun.
“Because they’re all my age and all as bad as each other,” he said.
“We actually have a really good time.”
Tournament director, Dennis Martin, said competitors travel from as far awaty as the Sunshine State to play.
“They’re coming from Queensland, Victoria and South Australia,” he said.
“There’s probably about 60 from away.
“They enjoy our course. They say our fairways are as good or better than the ones they play on in the cities.”
Now in its sixth year, the event starts with a registration day at the club from 4pm to 7pm tomorrow.
On Monday competitors will take part in a stableford par event, which sees three divisions of men and three divisions of women play each other.
The main event is the 36 hole stableford event being played on Tuesday and Thursday.
