With the countdown to Saturday’s Silver City Cup on in earnest, anyone stuck for last minute fashion ideas should visit the city traders in Argent Street.

A selection of the right clothes and jewellery is on offer and will be essential for those wishing to enter the Fashions of the Field which is bigger this year with the addition of two new competitions - Best Young Miss and Best Young Gent.

The other race day categories include Most Elegant Silver City Lady, Trendiest Chick, Most Stylish Hat and Best Country Gent.

Judges of the fashions include Joyce Williams, Lee Robertson and guest celebrity judges George Houvardas and Hugh Sheridan (Carbo and Ben from Packed to the Rafters).

Membership of the SC Race Club is $30 and includes entry to the course, a race book, membership badge, admittance to the members stand and a chance to go into the draw to win a scenic flight over Broken Hill and Menindee Lakes.

Mrs Kersten said the flight, which has been donated by Silver City Scenic Flights, was valued at $950 and can accomodate up to five passengers.

She added that picnic tables were still available and reminded racegoers that the regular bus service would again be running.

For just $4 each way, patrons can take a bus to the track from the Pizza Hut in Argent St, the Post office or the Juncion Hotel starting from 11am. Return trips via Williams and Bromide streets commence around 5pm.
