Fun, fitness, friends and frivolity are just some of the attractions the Silver City Roller Skating Club wants to share with more adult members at a free ‘Come ‘n’ Try’ session tomorrow afternoon.
While the club’s regular Friday night disco is proving a big hit with over 100 youngsters rolling in, club organisers believe BH’s adult population needs to wake up to the benefits of roller skating as well.
“It gives you a great cardio workout and is easy on your joints,” new devotee Tania Roberts explained.
“I play a number of different sports and have found that roller skating can even reduce the muscle soreness I suffer.
“It’s good for your posture and the skeletal muscles and there are a number of different disciplines within the sport, so it provides something for everyone,” Tania added.
To emphasise the benefits of the sport, the SCRSC has issued an open invitation to a free session at their Garnet Street Skate Arena (part of the Memorial Oval complex) between 1pm and 3pm tomorrow.
Skates will be provided and protective gear can be supplied as well.
“We are very lucky to have a rink here in Broken Hill and people need to come and try roller skating for themselves,” Tania said.
“Club coach Marie White is highly credentialed and what she can’t teach you about skating isn’t worth knowing.
“The best thing about skating is that it is for young and old which means families can share time together,” Tania continued.
“It’s another indoor option for people who are looking for some form of exercise and we have a lot of fun with what we do.
“I’ve only been involved for about 12 months and would recommend it to everyone.”
The club runs activities six days a week and anyone wanting further information can phone 8087-6980.
