She’s known simply as ‘Gran’ by her two biggest fans and yesterday Pauline Marrone celebrated the State’s first ever Grandparents Day with them - her grandchildren Ben and Gabriella Marrone-Sadauskas.
The trio had lunch at Club Legion where Pauline is the vice-president.
“When they delegated the day we decided to do something special for grandparents,” Mrs Marrone said.
Keeping up with modern forms of entertainment, she said she enjoyed playing video games with her grandkids during the weekend.
“We play the Wii and we go to the park of an afternoon,” she said.
The day was even more special for Ben, who turned eight yesterday.
The lunch attracted more than 100 diners, and club manager Ann Rogers said she was “really pleased with the numbers.”
“When I first heard there was going to be a Grandparents Day I knew I had to jump on board,” said Ms Rogers.
“Grandparents are an integral part of the family unit and deserve a day for their efforts just as mums and dads do.”
Murray-Darling Nationals MP John Williams said grandparents played an “invaluable role” in families.
“They enrich the lives of their grandchildren and other children in the community by providing care, mentoring and stability,” said the local MP, himself the grandfather of two.
“Grandparents are the unsung heroes in our community, so it is fitting they are recognised with a day in their honour.”
