Young champs score golf title double
Monday, 31st October, 2011
Two young golfers have claimed back-to-back wins in the Junior Golf Championships.
Phoebe Lane showed her prowess with the putter and played some very classy strokes to card just 19 over the three holes and in the process won herself promotion next year.
Luke Hall also claimed the double but had to produce his best at the end of the year to keep the field at bay.
He finished on 24 over the four holes to win by just three strokes from Connor Rogers and little Nick Devoy.
Evan Scott, playing his first year with the juniors, won the boys’ three-hole championship from the experienced Marcus Tan who should not be disappointed with his great effort.
They tied on 19 and Evan won on a countback on the last hole.
In the Senior Boys’ 7-9 hole event, Kyle Jelbert recorded an excellent 34 to win the championship.
Kyle will soon be doing his final tests to grant him his Golf Australia handicap that will make him eligible to play the clubs competition and has certainly put in the effort over the past 12 months.
All of the practice that the juniors had put into their game over the past eight months certainly paid dividends during the championships, with all of them getting their best scores to date. Some improved by six to eight strokes.
Congratulations, juniors, for what can only be described as a fantastic effort. I am very proud of the way each and every one of you went about your game.
A special mention to Eden Hammond who, in her first year, exceeded our expectations. Eden was put among the boys, standing shoulder to shoulder on the tee and never game them an inch. To her credit she carded 48 in a truly remarkable game. We will certainly hear the name Eden more and more over the next few years.
