Wine, dine and make a bid
Saturday, 5th July, 2008
Locals have a chance to buy a unique piece of musical memorabilia and help Broken Hill's newest major event being held later this year.
The inaugural Red Desert Live! fundraising dinner and art auction will be held at the Broken Hill Golf & Country Club on Sunday, September 14.
The dinner will feature food prepared by celebrity chef Stefano de Pieri of Mildura, music by local act Straight Up, and the highlight of the night - a musical art auction.
Guests can bid for one-of-a-kind artworks painted on a range of musical items including guitars, LP records, and even a Pianola roll.
Dinner organiser Ingrid Hausmann said she was excited about the event.
"I can't wait. The local artists have been most generous in donating their time and talents producing unique items for auction."
She said funds raised will help ensure the Red Desert Live! Festival can grow to its full potential.
"We have over 28 artworks to choose from ranging from painted LP records to an elaborate mosaic-covered guitar. There really is something for everyone and there is sure to be some fierce bidding on the night."
All proceeds from the event, which has been organised in conjunction with Broken Hill Gourmet Products, will go towards the Red Desert Live! Festival to be held on October 11-12 this year.
Publicity officer, Amelia Veale, said that while preparations for the event were on track, the fundraising dinner was crucial to securing its long term future.
She said there were plans to make the event an annual three-day music, arts and cultural festival.
"The committee has worked hard to ensure a sustainable event for the whole region and raising as much money as possible this year will mean a secure platform from which to grow the event for the benefit of the entire region," said Ms Veale.
Tickets are now available at Broken Hill Music for $100 a head which includes a gourmet desert dinner, beer, Yarra Valley wines, soft drinks, local entertainment, and entry to the art auction.
To cater for people unable to attend the auction, bids for all the items can be registered via the website www.rdl-artauction.wikispaces.com.
All the items can be seen on the website.
Anyone who registers a bid must be available by phone contact on the evening of the auction in order to participate and for a chance to place the winning bid.
The art works to be auctioned will be on display in the front windows of the Regional Art Gallery from mid August. For more information about the dinner contact Ingrid Hausmann on 08 8088 6869.
