Low-light portrait a highlight for Nicole

Saturday, 7th November, 2009

Photography student and former local Nicole Bugeja was recently recognised for her talent at the Australian Institute of Professional Photography (AIPP) State Awards.

Nicole won two silver medals at the South Australian awards which were held in Adelaide on Sunday and Monday last week.

The first was for a low-light portrait of former local Miles Clothier and the second was for a boxing portrait of local gym owner Luke McCarron. Twenty-year-old Nicole is in her final year of studying Photo Imaging at TAFE in O'Halloran Hill and was delighted with the accolades, especially as she was up against entries submitted by professional photographers. The budding photographer said she left Broken Hill to study the craft and has dreams of working as a portrait and fashion photographer. She now plans on entering her award-winning photos in the national AIPP awards which will be held in June next year. "The awards are definitely educational," Nicole said. "You do learn a lot from the judges because of what they say about the prints."
