Cool crowd flocks to Sturt Park
Saturday, 13th December, 2008
Cool weather meant last night's Carols by Candlelight was never going to set any crowd attendance records, but those that did brave the cold enjoyed the annual Christmas event.
Sturt Park was brought to life with lights and song as an estimated 2,000 people turned up to the 29th Carols by Candlelight.
Jackets and jumpers were definitely the order of the night.
"They were all rugged up," said organiser John Curtis.
Local performers including the Major Miners and Dennis and Sandy Crombie kept the audience entertained for almost two hours.
"It was a great night. Lots of fabulous performances. People got involved," Mr Curtis said."
Lots of families with young children and obviously they enjoyed it."
The theme for the night was Birthday Party and everyone received a present of lollies. As always, the evening ended with a rendition of Silent Night.
Mr Curtis said locals could expect an even better carols next year.
"We're looking forward to our 30th which we will make even more special."
