Friday, 16th May, 2008

Locals have the chance to experience the excitement of live musical theatre when The Wizard of Oz opens at Theatre 44 this weekend.

The show starts tomorrow and six performances will be given over the next three weekends. The Wizard of Oz is the latest of Marilyn Harris' productions following the success of Annie in 2006 and Alice in Wonderland last year.

"This is a super opportunity for children and adults to see a rare live theatre experience in Broken Hill at a very reasonable price," Mrs Harris said.

"Lots of grandparents bring their grandchildren and enjoy the show with them." "There are 38 children in the cast, some playing double parts, and all have been working very hard to produce a great show."

The leads are played by Shannon Swart, Kayla Honson and Manan Rafiq who have all performed in previous productions. Behind the scenes,

Mrs Harris has again been working hard on the production's colourful costumes with some help from friends and parents of cast members. The beautiful set has been painted by Bonita Swart and Nola Jones.

The Wizard of Oz will be performed on Saturdays May 17, 24 and 31 at 7:30pm and on Sundays May 18, 25 and June 1 at 2pm. Tickets are $15 adults, $10 concession and $8 children. You can book at Broken Hill Music in Argent Street (cash only) or buy tickets at the door (if seats available).

Canteen facilities will be available and the theatre will be comfortably heated.
