Turning trash into treasure

Saturday, 16th August, 2008

Jamie Chynoweth is enjoying the rewards of amateur photography after his shots were published in "Mad Cars Disease 2: More Madness."

Mr Chynoweth said he had read an article earlier in the year requesting shots of rusted cars in interesting locations, and his mind had turned to a rusting 1940s Chevrolet sitting at the rear of a Fillery Antiwear workshop.

The 41-year-old submitted around 100 shots of the old Chevy, with several being included in what is the second book in a pictorial series.

The quirky publication aims to showcase "a wonderful selection of old motor characters, each one rusting in peace in settings ranging from extreme dry desert to lush tropical."

Mr Chynoweth said he hoped the second edition of the book would prove as popular as the first, but that the experience had been enjoyable regardless.

"The first one was a good seller, so hopefully this one will be too.... but it's been great for me just to get published," he said.

"I love photography and I've had a great time collecting the photos and processing them.

"I've even started compiling some photos of other wrecks around town for the next edition."
