Luke rising through Idol ranks

One young local has wowed the Australian Idol judges and made his way through to the next round of the competition.
Luke West, a 16-year-old Willyama High student, travelled to Adelaide to attend the Sunday auditions.
After making it through the weekend auditions the singer/songwriter has progressed to the next round, to be held at the Barossa today.
If he makes it through those he'll qualify for Sydney. Luke sang three songs at his auditions - 'Here Without You' by 3 Doors Down, 'How to Save a Life' by The Fray and the self-written 'Reaching Hand'.
Some locals have already heard Luke's acoustic rendition of Here Without You after he won the Centro Westside Talent Quest last month with a performance of the song.
The young muso said he had only started playing guitar two years ago and had wanted to audition for Australian Idol last year but didn't meet the age cut-off. Luke said he was surprised to get through because of the high level of competition amongst the other 700 or so auditionees.
"There were some really good people not getting through," he said.
The judges told Luke he had a unique voice and a good sense of humour.
