Locals continue to donate thousands of dollars to cancer research through Australia's Biggest Morning Tea events. While yesterday marked the official date of the nationwide fundraiser, locals have been hosting morning teas in offices, homes and clubs all this month.
Money raised goes to cancer research, education and support services. Relatives and friends joined residents and staff at the War Veterans' Hostel on Wednesday for its Biggest Morning Tea fundraiser.Organiser Helen Semmens said that over 40 people, including 27 residents, attended the morning tea which raised over $250.
"We did quite well considering we only had a small number of people," Ms Semmens said. "We had many food items donated by members of staff. It was absolutely brimming over with food."
Ms Semmens, who has already filled out the form to host another morning tea next year, said to add some colour to the event women wore a coloured hat or fascinator.Yesterday, Aruma Lodge residents also got into the spirit with a big morning tea in the dining area. The men and women took some out time out for a cuppa and some sweets to support cancer research.
