Appeal a success: Salvos
Tuesday, 27th May, 2008
The 2008 Red Shield Appeal was well supported, according to the local Salvation Army.
Salvation Army Corps Officer, Jennifer Wheatley, said that the appeal had gone very well, with almost every area of the city covered by volunteers.
"We were absolutely thrilled with the response of the community this year," she said.
Ms Wheatley said $15,624 has been banked so far, with the money from the stall at the Plaza still to be counted.
She said all money raised would stay in the city.
"We'd like to especially thank the teachers, students and parents of both high schools for their turnout and support... they did a great job," Ms Wheatley said.
She also thanked the staff at Westpac bank for giving up their time to count the money on Sunday.
"All around it was an extremely successful Red Shield Appeal," she said. Donations to the appeal can still be made at Westpac for the remainder of this week.
