Slide out of action

Children have been flocking to the city's new water slide. They're hoping for an exhilarating ride down into cool water, but the only thing plunging is their spirits.

Just over a week after school holidays began, and just as summer starts to truly heat up, the water slide is broken.

The slide, a towering coil of plastic that has been regularly greeted with flocks of excited children, opened at the end of November alongside the city's new 50 metre swimming pool.

It broke down on Boxing Day.

City Council's General Manager Frank Zaknich said yesterday there was "an issue with water supply to the slide", and that Council was working to get it fixed as soon as possible.

Crystal Pools, which built the slide, has been contacted and will be returning to the city to investigate in the next few days.

The process is being slowed by the holiday period.

"It is disappointing, however the rest of the facility is working well and proving to be very popular," said Mr Zaknich.
