Award-winning singer Kate Ceberano is the headline act for the local Red Desert Live! festival to be held in October.
The festival's Committee Chairman, Jason King, said yesterday that organisers wanted the main act to be someone people knew who performed music they could get up and dance to. "She fits in well with the whole experience," Mr King said. "It's a fantastic outcome."
Mr King said Ms Ceberano usually had a large supporting band, which would further enhance the performance. Kate Ceberano has been on the Australian music scene for more than 25 years and has sold in excess of 1.5 million albums in this country alone. She has six platinum and four gold records, has performed numerous sell-out tours and won many awards. Recently she appeared on popular television programs Dancing with the Stars and It Takes Two. The committee has also confirmed crowd pleasers The Backsliders for the show and are in talks with other bands, including the popular Blue King Brown. Mr King said they would work on getting local musicians and artists involved as well.
The Red Desert Live! two-day festival will be held on October 11 and 12 at the racecourse. It will incorporate live music, the Big Screen movie festival and a Red Earth food expo. Mr King said also in the planning was a community afternoon for the Sunday. He said so far there had been great support from the community and that he hoped it would continue. "We're still looking for volunteers and support - cash or in-kind," he said. want to do everything we can to ensure success."
