Parenting is a “unique dance”.

That was the message that author and parenting advisor, Maggie Dent, gave to some 50 parents at a seminar held at the North Primary School yesterday.

Ms Dent, a highly-respected speaker, was bought to the city by the NSW Department of Education to present her seminar,’Real Kids In An Unreal World - Building Resilience and Self Esteem in Today’s Children.

“I think the turn-up says a lot about the town,” Ms Dent said.

“Today we talked about how we build confidence in children.”

Ms Dent is in the second week of her two-week tour of Western NSW, and having grow up in a country WA, she said that she recognised the importance of a child’s first five years in a close, community environment.

“The factors of community and family have got to be more combined,” she said.

Ms Dent’s final stop on the tour will be Wilcannia today where she will present her talk to parents at the Wilcannia Central School from 11am to 1pm.
