Dogs to warm up before facing Pt Pirie
By Square Leg
The final minor round of 20/20 cricket will be played at the Jubilee Oval today with Central taking on North in the early game at 12 30pm.
Both sides will be vying for a berth against West in the 20/20 Final to be played just before Christmas.
North, the reigning local 20/20 premiers, will be playing in Port Pirie in the Semi Finals of the South Australian 20/20 Championship on Sunday so this game will be an important pipe warmer for them and they will be obviously keen also to give themselves a chance of taking out back to back 20/20 premiership honours.
Codie Howard’s presence stiffens the North batting line up and gives them another bowling option while Tobias Hack will be important to the Blue & Whites with the willow as he has been in good touch of late.
The North bowling is the key to their 20/20 success. Chris Mitchell and Nick Pearce give very little away in the shortened version of the game while Tom Davey, Jake Napier and Ben Victory lend very good support.
Central threw the local competition wide open with their win over West last weekend.
The Magpies produced their best form for the season and welcomed the return of veteran Paul Rosenbaum who showed good form with the bat as well as the ball.
The form of Jardine, Wells and Jarred Paull with the bat will dictate the Magpies’ fortunes. Jardine has been in superb touch and if he can get some good support from the other duo the Magpies are more than capable of setting a hefty score for North to chase.
The Magpies bowling has been a little wayward this season at times but the presence and experience of Rosenbaum may straighten them up and make them more focussed.
This should be a great contest with little between both sides. I have an inkling that North may rise to the occasion and book themselves a berth in the 20/20 Final and give themselves the chance of going back to back.
