Chance to see local art galleries

Monday, 17th August, 2009

A new group is keen to promote the city's artistic attractions and plans to start by giving locals the chance to see just how much is on offer. They have set aside Saturday, September 5 for "Get off Your Arts", a full day devoted to encouraging locals to visit Broken Hill and Silverton galleries.

A spokesperson for the group, Glen Ravo, said the day would be a perfect opportunity to visit the galleries. Six buses will be departing from the BH Regional Gallery at about 20 minute intervals throughout the day, doing a loop around more than 30 galleries and studios. Access to all participating galleries will be free, including The Big Picture, Pro Hart, White's Mineral Museum, as well as many gallery/studios which are not open to the general public. The buses are also free. A select number of galleries are also open on the Friday evening prior (September 4) for wine and nibbles to meet and greet the artists in a casual atmosphere. Several poets from home and away will also be entertaining at these galleries. Several locations have also been earmarked to showcase artists who do not have galleries.

Any artists wishing to contribute to the event should contact either Dell at West Darling Arts on 8087 9035 or Glen Ravo 8087 5978. The event has been made possible through the sponsorship, assistance and donations from several local organisations and individuals.
