The Silver City Cup Committee is looking forward to their 2012 race meeting with renewed enthusiasm following the success of this year’s event in October.
The committee expects to announce a profit from the October 22 race meeting at its Annual General Meeting in February and President Christine Kersten says the positive result is a credit to all involved.
“As most people know, we came very close to cancelling this year’s meeting, so to be able to put on a successful day and generate some funds for future events is very pleasing,” Mrs Kersten said.
“Our sponsors have been fantastic, the committee members worked extremely hard and without our small team of workers and volunteers this would not have been possible.”
Mrs Kersten was also pleased to announce that Marilyn Harvy from Pinepoint Station was the lucky winner of the membership prize, which was drawn by Chief Steward Trevor Odgers.
“Marilyn was one of those hard working people who contributed on race day acting as Clerk of the Course,” Mrs Kersten explained.
“As a paid up member she was also eligible to win the draw and she and four friends will now enjoy an aerial view of Menindee Lake and Broken Hill thanks to Silver City Scenic Flights.
“I’m sure she will enjoy the hospitality provided by David and Michelle Hart from Silver City Scenic Flights - who were one of our new sponsors this year - and we appreciate their generosity in providing the chance for someone to win a near $1000 prize just by purchasing a $30 membership,” Mrs Kersten continued.
Sponsorship and membership for the 2011 Silver City Cup was up on previous years, with 157 people joining the club.
