Maurice an All-Australian
Thursday, 19th November, 2009
Maurice Hetherton is hoping more Broken Hill blokes will join him at next year's Australian Masters' Carnival so they can share his success.
Mr Hetherton attended the 2009 carnival last week as a member of the city's Shinglebacks football team.
His strong performance at the Cairns event led to him being named as a member of the All-Australian Team. The team recognises the 25 best performers out of the 160 players in each division. Mr Hetherton competed in the Over 55s division. He will receive a team photo and his name will be recorded on the team roster. He was also awarded a team guernsey when the line-up was announced at a presentation night that concluded the carnival.
Mr Hetherton has been competing at the carnival for 14 seasons "I had a good carnival in Cairns. It's always good fun. Lots of people use it as a family holiday," he said. "The next carnival is in Canberra in about 12 months, hopefully we can get some more Broken Hill players to attend. There are blokes as old as 74 who go, and you're always against your own division."
