Quest for talent

Wednesday, 22nd July, 2009

Broken Hill's stars of the future were on stage at the plaza yesterday for the Thankakali Talent Quest.

Around 12 young performers took to the stage for the first heat of the competition, performing vocal, musical and dancing routines. Amongst them was nine year-old Makenna Huxtable, who sang the Jonas Brothers' hit, Burning Up. "I think it went good," said Makennah. "I was happy and nervous at the same time. I couldn't stop smiling."

The second round of heats will take place today from 10am to 12 noon and anyone interested in performing is invited to nominate on the day or contact Thankakali Youth Programs Coordinator, Joyce Williams.

Ms Williams said the competition had proven popular and she invited the public to come along from a great day of entertainment. "We hold the concert annually as part of the school holidays, and it's a real confidence-building thing for young people," she said.
