No quick fix

The highway to Adelaide will be blocked to motorists for at least a week.
The South Australian Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure said yesterday that the Barrier Highway would stay closed due to the damage incurred on the Pine Creek bridge, five kilometres from Cockburn.
Engineers inspected the bridge yesterday after severe flooding left it unsafe to cross.
The Department said emergency repairs were needed before it was safe to use but that it would be “at least” a week before the highway was reopened.
Diversions are in place from Burra for those travelling to Broken Hill, but there is a warning to avoid unnecessary travel in SA’s mid to far north.
Meanwhile, a map of Far West roads shows just how many motorways and bush tracks are blocked.
Every main road out of Broken Hill, except for the Silver City Highway to Mildura and the Barrier Highway east of the city to Sydney, has been temporarily closed.
The extensive list of roads will remain closed until at least the next road condition review at 10am today; but with ongoing rain it’s expected to be days, if not weeks, until road conditions return to normal.
