Flying start for junior footy
Monday, 5th March, 2012
The rain may have forced Saturday’s junior football registration day indoors, but that didn’t stop the city’s future footy stars from having a ball.
Hundreds of youngsters decked out in their footy gear packed the Sanderson Stadium to sign on with their club for the 2012 season.
There were a variety of activities and games, the most popular of which was an inflatable mattress complete with goal posts and a dummy for kids to take “screamers” over.
Footballs were given out as prizes throughout the day, and kids also got free drinks and sausages.
Broken Hill Junior Football Association Chairman, Scott Dunne, said the day had been a great success.
“It’s been good. We’ve had a great roll up of kids, especially in the Auskick, and a lot of the older kids will come and register later in the day,” Mr Dunne said.
“It’s been a very family-orientated day. We’ve had all the clubs, players and the Shinglebacks down here helping out. It’s just been excellent.”
Mr Dunne said he wished to thank the Broken Hill Basketball Association for the use of the stadium for the day.
