Gageler doubles up

Peter Gageler looks set to play a big part in the upcoming Champ of Champs tournament after taking out dual titles in the Zinc Bowling Club’s Championship.
The club’s top bowlers took to the greens on Sunday in perfect conditions with Gageler and Stephen Balman facing off in the major singles.
Both players produced a number of good shots throughout the match, with Gageler finally prevailing in a hard-fought contest.
“I think I was just a little bit more consistent on the day,” said Gageler.
“I’d actually been playing in Adelaide for the two weeks prior for the Country Carnival and I think all that practice helped out.
“Steve actually got away on me early and I had to fight to peg him back. But then I got in front and it sort of stayed that way.
“But he’s renowned as a very good bowler and he’s only just got back into bowls so he did very well to make the final first up.”
Gageler then paired with Lou Garnaut to take out the doubles title against Christopher and Trevor Barry.
Garnaut said the momentum swung several times in the match with both teams producing good bowls at crucial moments.
“It was a tight game. We’d get the odd two or three then we’d go down, then we’d get a couple more and they slowly built up,” said Garnaut.
“Luckily in the end me and Pete were just able to get a couple more so it wasn’t too bad.
“But it was a good game with good friendship. We all play together and know each other’s abilities so you had to really be on the ball.”
Sunday’s winners will now go on to play against the best players from rival clubs in the Champ of Champs.
