A “magnificent” game of lawn bowls has decided the city’s Champ of Champs in the women’s league.
The Silver City Women’s Bowling Association final was played over three days and ended yesterday with Maxine Murphy taking the honours from Judy White.
A club spokeswoman said it was a “magnificent game” played over 27 ends in which the score didn’t indicate just how close it was.
The Champ of Champs finals started on Tuesday when North’s Judy White played Zinc’s June Walker in an evenly contested game where the scores fluctuated throughout.
Maxine Murphy won her game on day two for the BH Bowling Club.
The spokeswoman said the bowlers were blessed with ideal weather throughout the fianls.
Maxine said she was “really honoured” to win.
“I must still have it in me,” she said.
This was her fourth Champ of Champs title and she said that the skill level of the other players was very high.
Her advice to other bowlers was to “just keep at it”.
“I’ve been playing for 48 years and I still hope to keep playing.”
