The city’s best male bowlers went head to head at the North Bowling Club over the weekend to decide the singles and pairs “Champ of Champs”.

The singles title was won by Zinc’s Peter Gageler after he defeated fellow club champions Barry Hooker (North) and  Graham Stubing (BH Bowling Club) in a round robin playoff.

Gageler put on a fine display of draw bowling to register the two wins plus 33 shots.

The pairs competition was a holy contested affair, with North’s father and son team Wayne and Dustin Williams opening their account with a win over BH’s Brian Fenton and Ray Roberts.

The Williams boys then faced off against the Zinc team of Gageler and partner Lou Garnaut, with the thrilling game decided by the final bowl and ending in a draw.

Gageler and Garnaut then produced a convincing win over Fenton and Roberts to seal the Champ of Champs title.

The newly crowned champs will now play in the Region 4 Championships at Morgan Bowling Club on April 14 and 15.
