It seemed that the luck of the Irish was with the St Patrick’s Race Club when they held their 47th race meet on Saturday.
The Friday before the event caused some worries among the club members but the day couldn’t have turned out better, according to Club President Marg Corradini.
“It’s been absolutely superb. We are so thrilled we have been able to race after yesterday’s rain,” Mrs Corradini said.
“We were quite anxious as there was a lot of water on the track and around Broken Hill but we couldn’t be happier today.
“The wind dried out the track which was superb.
“The racing has been great, there were no major incidents. We thought we might have had one in the second race but the horse has come up quite well and is going home.
“It has been a wonderful cup. We had an Irish girl from Tipperary win the cup.”
For the first time in its history the races fell on St Patrick’s Day which was a event moment for the club, Mrs Corradini said.
The newest addition to the meeting, ‘The Green Room’, with DJs, a bar and finger food was a hit with the young people; 400 of them booked a place.
Brent Rose, who was in the party tent, said it was good to have something different at the races.
“They should have something like this every year from now on,” he said. “All the DJ’s were really good.”
Mrs Corradini said attendance at the meeting was on par with previous years.
“I would like to thank everyone for their hard work. I would like to thank the committee and sponsors and everyone who supports the day.”
Mrs Corradini said the whole day was ‘beautiful’.
“I couldn’t have asked for anything better.”
