In the 12 months since the new 50 metre pool opened City Council has reported a 32 per cent increase in attendance.

And with the temperature set to be in the 40s for the next four days, those figures can only go up. Paul DeLisio, Council's Manager of Infrastructure, yesterday spoke of the marked improvement in pool attendance.

Mr DeLisio said that in the financial year 2006/2007, 51,000 people went to the pool and he was pleased to see that the number had increased by 32 per cent to 68,000 in the following year. He said Broken Hill would benefit from the 50 metre pool which could attract events such as the SA Swimming Country Championships which will be held here next year. This major event would give a boost to the tourism industry and was great for Broken Hill swimming clubs, he said.
