Author Jenny Camilleri delves into the city's rich history in her latest book, "Remarkable People, Events and Buildings of the Past".

It is the fourth book written by Ms Camilleri, which draws inspiration from old memoirs written in the city's early years. "When you find old written diaries and stories and journals, you like other people to read what you've discovered," said Ms Camilleri.

"My aim as a writer is to let other people find out how exciting some of the stories that you do uncover are. I enjoy writing this type of historical interest, I love it." Among those featured in the book are the Harrod girls, journalist Joe Johnson and the Stokie family from Silverton.

The book was launched by Mayor Wincen Cuy last Saturday, and a copy was given to Prime Minister Kevin Rudd during his visit that weekend. Remarkable People, Events and Buildings of the Past is available from Browzers Bookshop, the Trades Hall and the tourist centre.
