CIVIC DEBUT: The debutantes and their partners for tonight’s Civic Ball. CIVIC DEBUT: The debutantes and their partners for tonight’s Civic Ball.

One of the city’s biggest community showpieces is on tonight at the Civic Centre where 11 young ladies will make their debut at the Civic Ball.

Mayor Wincen Cuy said the ball was the culmination of several months of practice and hard work by the girls and their beaus.

“This year’s group of debutantes and their partners have shown outstanding commitment,” Mayor Cuy said.

“They have worked closely with dance instructor, Andrew Bevarne, and their efforts will be rewarded in what will be a wonderful night for families and their friends.

“The Civic Ball is a highlight on the city’s social calendar. The young people who have committed to making this year’s ball a success should be congratulated.”

Mr Bevarne said the teenagers had been a delight to teach and that tonight they would dance the waltz and the cha-cha with their partners and a waltz with their parents.

“They are great kids and are putting in a lot of effort,” he said.

“They are always turning up and have been really good.”

Mr Bevarne said it was pleasing to see so many debutantes in the ball this year.
