Miss Universe contestant Lisa Kickett is to get a helping hand from City Council.
Lisa has made it into the semi-finals and will be leaving the city on Wednesday to participate.
At Thursday night’s monthly meeting, councillors voted to donate $500 to help Lisa in her quest, said her manager Protalent’s Sloane Howard.
Ms Howard said the Maari Ma Health Corporation had also given $1000 and the Democratic Club $500.
“To get flights we are talking about the good part of $2000 plus accommodation on top and the expenses on top of that,” she said.
“There is hair, jewellery, evening gowns. There are so many other things involved. Not many people are aware of it.”
Ms Howard said there were donation tins around town and a ‘pay pal’ account was also available.
“We leave Wednesday for the NSW Finals. They are being held at the Stamford Hotel, Circular Quay in Sydney,” she said.
“I think Lisa is quite excited, especially now she has experienced the preliminary finals. She had no idea what to expect before and went in pretty blind.
“There is a lot of preparation for the next stage, just tiny little things like teeth cleaning and teeth whitening. We need a trainer to work on a few areas.
“The competition provides swimwear and casual clothes but the rest is up to us.”
Ms Howard said it was a fantastic opportunity for Lisa and for other locals.
“It opens the door for other local girls in years to come. They can see it is a realistic dream,” she said.
“Can anyone help us raise money for Lisa Kickett to compete Miss Universe competition? Any amount would be great.”
Donations may be made though through pay pal at email@example.com or by calling Protalent Australia on 8087 0074 or emailing sloane@protalentaustralia.
