Bocce balls will be colliding when Adelaide’s own Trevisani Al Mondo Association meet the city’s Italo International Club for a social tournament this weekend.
The two clubs will go head to head in a social bocce tournament on Sunday and organisers anticipate a good roll.
Skilled veteran John DeFranceschi said he was looking forward to the contest.
Mr DeFranceschi said the game was wildy popular in Europe where he first played it.
“It’s a national game and we’d play with washed stones. You’d play in the road most of the time,” he told the BDT. “That’s very typical of Europe.”
He said the challenge here would be played under modified rules, and encouraged anyone interested in the sport to give it a try.
“We make it home rules instead of the international rules. That way it gives everyone a chance.
“The sport has changed and we need another generation to adopt the new rules.
“But the people that are coming are traditional players.”
The two clubs will also share a dinner on Sunday night, and anyone who would like to attend is encouraged to register their interest by Friday.
People interested in competing going to the dinner may contact Mr DeFranceschi on 8087 5403. Nominations can also be lodged on 8087 6758.
